On June 12th, 2009 in the village of Listvyanka in the vicinity of Hotel Alie Parusa (Scarlet Sails) an aquarium for Lake Baikal seals was opened. The Baikal seal is an endemic animal and the only mammal of the lake’s fauna. The total population is estimated to be 90-100,000 animals. Habitat destruction and illegal hunting is responsible for dramatic decline in Baikal seal population. In the aquarium the mammals perform to the pubic in the first in the world seals entertainment show. Seals also display themselves as talented artists drawing pictures during the performance.
