Since the second decade of December the Khabarovsk residents have started preparations for the New Year holidays. New Year’s holidays are the most important of the year; they include the celebration of New Year on January 1, Christmas on January 7 and usually last from December 31 to January 9 or 10. During the past and this week the main streets, squares and parks were adorned with more than 100 New Year trees. Every day after dark the illumination is lit and the city is immersed in a festive atmosphere. On December 12 in the central square of Khabarovsk – Lenin Square a 20 meter high New Year tree was placed. Also here ice blocks for traditional annual festival of ice sculptures were installed. “Ice Fantasy” will be held in Khabarovsk for the 9th time and participants from Russia, China and Japan will take part in the festival.
