Russia, Japan and South Korea to Promote Transport Partnership
On June 29, 2009 a new ferry line between the ports of Niigata (Japan), Troitsa (the Maritime Territory in Russia) and Sokcho (South Korea) will be launched. Three days a week the ferry will travel from Niigata to Sokcho, the largest port in the east of Korean peninsula, then return to Japan via Troitsa (the former Zarubino). Thus the Russian port can serve as an intermediate point between Japan and the continent. Japan, Russia, China and Korea are planning to foster their trade relations using a cargo ferry line for shipping raw materials, farm product and major commercial goods. It will also carry passengers and tourists to and from the ports of the Sea of Japan. Fare of the round trip Niigata-Troitsa-Niigata is expected to be around US$300.
