In the second decade of January the cities of Siberia and the Russian Far East were strongly influenced by cold cyclone arriving from the Arctic. As a result the air temperature dropped in many areas below 30-40 degrees Celsius. January 13 was marked in many areas by severe frosts which had not been there 33 years since 1977. In Khabarovsk the predawn temperatures were registered as – 35 degrees Celsius, at day time - -25. In Vladivostok – 23 and 19 degrees respectively. In the mountainous regions of the Khabarovsk and Primorye territories minimum temperature was below 40 degrees. According to the weather forecast such abnormal temperature will last till the end of the week, up to January 19.
